We are Always Ready for a Challenge in Building Resilient
Communities along the Lake Victoria Basin in Busia.
We
believe in the transformative power of collective action, where each seed
planted, every story told, and every project undertaken is a testament to our
dedication to a sustainable and harmonious world. Join us on this journey of
impact, where resilience is built, communities thrive, and the legacy of
sustainability echoes through the landscapes we touch. Together, let's weave a
narrative of positive change, one project, one tree, one community at a time.
Since our establishment, even before our official registration in 2020, We've embarked on a transformative journey through impactful collaborations with various organizations. Our commitment to environmental sustainability and community well-being has resulted in the successful implementation of over a dozen projects. Partnering with esteemed organizations such as Design Reparations, Indigeneous and Modern, World for Climate App, Mandu Mandu Foundation, Healing Trees Initiative, and Jael's Women Association, we've collectively planted over 20,200 trees across diverse projects. Notably, our flagship initiative 'Kenge LakeGuardians: Restoring Resilience along Lake Victoria Basin' has been instrumental in providing locally accessible climate education and promoting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) awareness in rural communities. As we reflect on our achievements, we remain dedicated to our mission, poised to undertake more projects that contribute to building a resilient community and fostering a climate-stable world.
With a
rich history spanning over five years, Kenge Content Hive stands as a seasoned

OUR
PARTNERSHIP WITH DESIGN REPARATIONS: Building Resilient
Communities: Integrating Traditional Knowledge and Local Storytelling for
Climate Adaptation and Design Innovations.
What is Design Reparations?
Design Reparations is an innovative project initiated by Cecilia Scolaro and Tiago Vilas Boas from the Netherlands, under the Open Call Climate Justice by Creative Industries Fund NL. The project aims to bridge the gap between traditional and indigenous knowledge and modern design practices, with the goal of fostering climate adaptation and building resilience in vulnerable communities.
Through our partnership, we are integrating traditional wisdom and local storytelling to co-create design solutions that address the pressing climate challenges facing communities along the Lake Victoria Basin in Kenya. By blending these two worlds, we can develop creative, sustainable, and culturally rooted approaches that not only honor our heritage but also provide practical responses to the climate crisis.
The
Importance of Our Project
Our collaboration with Design Reparations marks a pivotal moment in the journey to
integrate local wisdom with cutting-edge design to combat climate change. By
blending traditional knowledge with contemporary design practices, we are
creating a holistic approach that both honors and revitalizes local traditions
while addressing pressing environmental challenges. Through the power of
indigenous storytelling and ancient practices, we are developing innovative
solutions that resonate deeply with the cultural heritage of the communities
around the Lake Victoria Basin. These design interventions are not only
tailored to the unique environmental and social needs of the region but also
aim to enhance the community’s resilience to the ongoing impacts of climate change.
Furthermore, this partnership fosters sustainable development by generating
long-lasting solutions that go beyond immediate climate responses, supporting
the community's well-being and ecological balance for generations to come.
Our Participation at Dutch Design Week 2024

On the 22nd of October, at BioArt Laboratories in Eindhoven, we successfully held a special session called Design Reparations, represented by our co-founder Ian Francis. The presentation highlighted our commitment with our partners to integrating traditional knowledge with modern design, showcasing how local practices can merge with contemporary approaches to create innovative, climate-resilient solutions. This session marked a significant step toward decolonization, addressing the historical disconnect between younger generations and the profound connection to nature that guided the lives of our elders. Our design innovations aim to bridge this gap, reconnecting the current generation with nature by merging tradition and modernity. This successful event represented a hopeful step toward lasting change, renewing our connection to both environment and culture.
Our Participation at Nairobi Design Week 2025

At Nairobi Design Week 2025, we had the privilege of showcasing our work through an engaging exhibition that celebrated the integration of traditional knowledge and modern design. This platform allowed us to connect with creatives, innovators, and designers from diverse backgrounds, exchanging ideas and exploring synergies. Our participation was marked by exciting new partnerships, including collaborations on two initiatives: the Regeneration Festival and the Cultural Revival Program, both aimed at fostering ecological restoration and cultural heritage preservation. We organized and took part in a powerful panel discussion on Decolonizing Design, where we explored the importance of rethinking design narratives to honor indigenous knowledge and local storytelling. This experience strengthened our mission to bridge tradition and innovation in pursuit of sustainable, climate-resilient futures.
